Fashion trend: Skinny belt with cardigan

Thursday, October 31, 2013

So I have a question for all those fashionistas out there and I’m hoping for either pictures or ideas or both..

How in the hell do you do the belt with a sweater look? You know that preppy look with a skinny belt, a cute cardigan and maybe some slim pants or a pencil skirt. I have tried everything under the sun and I cannot get this look down. I see it all over the news and all over the pages in magazines and it looks great, but when I try to do it on my own…it looks a mess. My waist is too…something and my hips just look out of place. I’ve got the skinny belt, and the slim pants and everything and I still cannot get it right.

okay, so in this picture…they are wide leg pants, but I’m still wearing the cardigan and the skinny belt just looks…wrong. the weird part is that when I had just put it on, it looked fine. then after a bit of moving, it looked like this:

Seriously, what am I doing wrong?

Most extravagant purchase in my life:

I’m going to get a little personal here for a moment, only because I feel the back-story is needed.

At the beginning of this year (2013), February 29 to be exact, my divorce was finalized. In the settlement, we split his retirement and I elected to receive a lump sum.

Fast forward to June, when I received the check. I wanted something to represent me, to cheer me up and help me put the past behind me. I wanted to just spend on something that I wanted and I honed in on a purse. A bag to be exact and it had to be beautiful. Large. Name brand. Luxurious. The epitome of glam and elegance and sophistication and just…everything I wanted my life to be now that I was single. Where does a girl go when she wants to feel all those things without surgery?

To Louis Vuitton of course.

I picked this bag:

And fell in love. To me it represented everything that I wanted to be, everything that I planned to be now that I was single, thinner than I had ever been in my life and happy. The moment I handed over my check card and the sales clerk handed me my bag in return…it felt like everything was falling into place. No, it didn’t solve all my problems or lessen the sting still in my heart of the divorce, but it did make me smile and that my friends…is a good place to start.

OOTN-Birthday party

Sunday, October 27, 2013

last night was my is my boyfriend’s birthday and we had a little party for him at his local bar. Lately, I’ve been looking for the chance to get dressed up and show off a bit and this is my chance.

<DSCN0161So I got the dress as the BeBe outlet store here in Lakewood, CO, along with the belt. I love the color of the dress and the cross of fabric in the front. I think the belt keeps it just this side of casual, so the other party goers don’t feel underdressed. So magnanimous of me don’t you think?

The booties I love! DSCN0156I got them at the Neiman Marcus outlet store in Belmar and I have to say…they are super comfortable. I wouldn’t have thought they could be, with the thin sole, but they don’t start hurting till about hour 3 or so…which works for me. Love the heel height as well. Added a few accessories and I was ready to party.

Luxury wish list

I’m not afraid to admit…I have expensive tastes. I like the finer things in life and often lust after them as if there were a decadent dessert waiting for me to devour them. If I ever win the lottery, I’m getting these things first.

What woman does not want a channel bag? Even if I never carried it but to bed, I would be very happy. A nice black or white would be great, but I’m willing to take any color.

I would need more than one pair of these shoes. Gorgeous styling, sexy heel height and just…ohhh…beautiful shoes. These are going out and showing off shoes. These are shoes to go on that ultimate date…you know the one where the guy you’ve been eyeing for a while finally asks you out? Yea…that kinda of date.

Oh man…do I really need to say why I lust after this bag? Just the epitome of luxury and beauty and everything that is glamorous. I would seriously want a collection of these bags, in a rainbow of colors.

Since I’m rich anyway, why not have the ultimate in luggage? I would love to own the hard cases of this line…all of them. Of course, I would need to own my own plane so that the luggage wouldn’t get stolen or damaged, but I’ve won the lottery so of course I would have one.

There are other luxury items on this wish list, but these are the ones that have to do with fashion.

DSCN0143

The beginning

I have something to admit. Something that may shock you, so sit down.
Are you sitting?
I’m not in my twenties. Not even close. I know, shocking right? Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s move on to the why I had to shatter your dreams.
I like fashion. I like to dress up and look good. I like to impress. It might be the southern in me or the way my mother raised me, but it’s there. I don’t go out the house unless I’m fully ready and if you EVER catch me in sweats and I’m not cleaning or working out…call the padded van. And what I’ve noticed is that there are few blogs with fashion geared towards women my age. Just because I’m not fresh out of college does not mean that I’m not interested in clothing or fashion or in looking good. So I’m making a place for other women like me, women who want to dress and look good and be included in the fashion.
That’s not to say that I don’t take risks or like the latest trend, but at times…those trends are a bit too young for me and all I can hear in my head is my mother, asking me where do I think I’m going. I just…I just can’t do it. I know as well that there are women out there like me, women who like the current trends, but don’t want to look as if they are trying to hard to be young. We’ve been there, done that. This is a different time in our life and we should celebrate it, embrace it as a soft cashmere sweater would embrace us.
Did you like that comparison? Oh I’m good, I know.
This is going to be a great ride. I can see it now…
