My experience with Dove Body Polish

One of my favorite things to do in the shower is to use a body scrub. I do the usual washing and what not, but when I reach for the body scrub, I must admit my heart does skip a beat a little. I think it’s the after affects that I enjoy the most. The feeling of my body being smooth, seeing the dead skin float away down the drain (sorry for the image) and how the lotion glides on after I step out the shower.

In my pursuit of finding the PERFECT scrub, I came across the dove body polish. Now to be honest, I find it though a youtuber by the name of Styled by Casanova. She was talking about her shower routine and showcased the scrub. To say I was intrigued is an understatement. At the time I was using the TreeHut body scrub but the end was coming for it and I needed something to replace it. So off to Target I went in search of this new scrub. I originally wanted to get all the “flavors” but I wasn’t ready to commit if I didn’t like the results or wasn’t happy in any way.

Spoiler alert - I should have gotten all the “flavors”

In the past month I have been thoroughly enjoying this new addition to my shower routine and I really had to share it with you. Let’s talk about shall we?

Pros:

1.       Price: the price on this is too good to pass up. It's around $5.95 at Target and doing some price digging, this is a consistent price across the board.

2.       Availability - You can pick this item up at Target, on Amazon, Walmart and a slew of other readily available places

3.        It's smooth on the skin. The granules are small and don't feel jagged on the skin. It also dissolves easily in water, not leaving a film on the tub.

Comparison: So as I said earlier, I was using the TreeHut shea body scrub and I do have some thoughts on the two.

1st- the TreeHut is a thicker consistency with it being a sugar scrub. It is also slipperier as I think the base is oil or something of that nature. This means that I usually use it last in my routine as the bottom of my tub gets slippery and I fear for my life as there are no rails in the shower enclosure. If I am taking a bath and using this scrub I have to make sure to either wash the tub after I’m done or wash the tub before I shower next or there is a film on the tub. The Dove body polish is not as slick, so I feel more stable using it in the shower. I would say that the consistency is a bit drier than other scrubs I’ve used in the past and this is not a bad thing.

2nd – I often felt like I was using more of it, since it was so chunky. I would scoop it out and at times feel that I was not really getting a good scrub. Other times it was fine, so more of a toss-up. The Dove body polish has smaller, finer granules which I like better. I feel that it applies better and gets a smoother finish. I tend to use less of it because it is almost like lotion with small beads in it, spreading in a fine layer to go further.

3rd- Leaking. Due to the more liquid nature of TreeHut, when it comes to storing and buying on line, it’s a bit of an adventure in making sure it does not get anywhere. Even with tightly closing the lid, this is a not a product I would travel with and I would be cautious about who you order it from to ensure it does not leak. I ordered mine from Ulta and they taped the heck out of it for me. There was still a bit of leakage so that goes back to my point. Not so much and issue with Dove. As I said, it’s a drier consistency, so leakage is not so much a concern. This is a product I would travel with, even going so far as to decant a bit into a travel sized container.

I hope that this review is usual for you. I do like both products so please don’t get me wrong. I just seem to have a better relationship with the Dove Body polish.

Tell me… Do you use body scrubs? What body scrubs are you a fan of?

 Favorite pamper products

Lately, I have been into taking care of me. Before the pandemic started, I’d started getting into a habit of taking long baths, I was reading again…even journaling. Then we went into lockdown and I think I might have fallen into a funk. Everything was on lockdown and we weren’t going anywhere, not even to work. I started to think…what’s the point? I am loathe to admit that this went on for a while. I just could not shake the feeling of not caring.

Recently though, something changed. I began to see that not taking the time for me was hurting more than it was helping and I struggled to find myself again. The first step towards that was some pampering. I wanted to feel…alive. I know…dramatic but it’s the only way I can describe the feeling I was looking for. I wanted to feel like me again, so I started to make the necessary changes.

1st up…pamper sessions. This may not apply to everyone, but after a good skincare and bath routine, I tend to feel awake and more in tune with my feelings. Perhaps more in control I dare say. Now in order for these sessions to do some good, I need a few things.

Face mask:

The mask depends on what I feel my skin needs in the moment. Usually I’m in the middle of a breakout when I’m stressed, so I tend to gravitate towards clearing or detoxifying masks. After, I use an overnight hydrating mask to restore the balance and leave me plump

Eye patch:

These I tend to use about once a week when I feel that my under eyes are looking dark or tired…which is a lot with a toddler and working from home.

Body scrub:

These I love no matter what. I use them in the shower on a daily basis and in the tub especially right before I shave. I love how they leave my skin feeling and looking soft and smooth.

Hair Mask:

I do go about twice a month for a salon deep condition, but in-between those times, I do have to maintain this mane on my own. I have a few that I go with and they always leave my hair feeling and looking moisturized for days

Heated face cloth:

I found this while watching a YouTuber talk about her bath times. This is a fabulous addition to any pamper routine. I got a three pack on Amazon and it always has me feeling like I’m at a spa.

Bath Bomb:

Both fun and functional, I like to splurge on these from Lush. They are always so big and give off a nice fragrance to the bath. I tend to like the ones that have oils in them as I have DRY skin and I do find that they help with that. I also like the colors they give the bath. I’ve tried other ones but none of them really compare…at least so far.

Body butter/Body oil:

My most recent addition is has been body butters and bath oils. I’m not sure why, as I find them so hydrating and soothing. I picked up the body butter from kiehls and it has been a game changers. The scent is subtle and the moisture last like nobody’s business. My biggest gripe with lotion and other body butters is that I’ll put it on at night and then wake up to dry skin…again! It was so frustrating that a lot of times I would just forgo the lotion or use Vaseline and stain my sheets. This body butter topped with body oil is *chefs kiss* and hallelujah…when I wake up my skin is still silky smooth.

*I do try other products but these are what I'm using at the moment and love.

Ahhhhh 2020...

This year...I had the most grand plans. I was going to take trips, I was going to go hard in my businesses, I was going to be more creative...quite frankly I was going to do it all. This was going to be the year I got my life together and just went for it. I think that was everyone's plan, am I right? I feel that collectively this year we had all made this plan to get out lives on the right track or at least try.

And then the waves hit.

One thing after another just kept coming and it was all we could do to keep our heads above water, to not drown under what feels like an onslaught of situations and problems and concerns. Magnified by feeling helpless and trapped.

Ok, was the dramatic enough for you?

But honestly, things feel heavy right now and it's okay to not be okay. It okay to be upset that plans have changed or been cancelled. To be sad that trips are restricted and school is not what you thought it would be. It is good to mourn these things and experiences that we had long for with a passion that can not be turned off.  All of this is okay.

I will keep trudging along with the plans that do work, go to the places that I can get to. My daughter starts preschool in September and I long for what it was supposed to be like, the utter normalcy of it, only to be replaced by something different and strange. I'll get through this, mostly because I have no choice. I'm on this ride and there is no getting off. But also because my daughter is none the wiser of what "should have been". She has no idea what 1st days of schools are supposed to be and I'm going to keep it that way.

We are still going to travel, just safer than before. More aware of what we come in contact with and who. I want my daughter to see the world, more than I ever got to, which is still a lot. I want to see all these places through her eyes, seeing wonders for the first time. I'm not going to let much stop me in my tracks.

How are you going to handle the new "norm"? What plans did you have to put on hold? Did you have any plans for 2020?

A Quick List of Stationery Needs

Monday, August 24, 2020

Have I ever told you how much i love stationary? Like I really LOVE stationary. In the past few years I have developed what some might call an obsession with it and all that it entails. Planners, pencils, papers, stickers...the list just goes on and one. I think my favorite of them all is pens. I am the person who will take your pen if you are not watching. Not always on purpose, but I am never sorry if you call me out on it. If anything, I'll be upset that you called me out on it. *lol*

So today, in honor of that unhealthy love, I thought i would share with you some of my top stationary loves. I would say in no particular order, but that honestly would be a lie.

  • Pens...make my heart sing. I can not explain the sheer pleasure that i get when an order comes in from Amazon or JetPens or PenGems or really anywhere and there is a pen in it. I like to savor opening the package, let it marinate a day before i take it out and admire it. I know...i sound crazy and that's okay. I freely admit it.

  • Planners - WHOOO BOY! that's all i can really say. This is like my second love right here. I will buy a planner knowing full well that I have six more at home i have to use. Right now I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a B6 planner. I have no use for it. None at all, but why should that stop me from being happy?

  • Highlighters - one can never have to many. Does it matter than i drawers full of them? That i'm not in school and have no real need for them? That I collect different brands? NO. All that matters is they are pretty and I can look at them whenever I want to.

  • Washi - I need to be honest here. I do not use washi like you would think. Not really. when i scrapbook I try to use the washi but it just does not work. I forget I have it, I can't figure out how to place it, I don't like tearing off the ends. And I still keep my subscription box to Simply Gilded because every month is a new surprise. This newest box is Paris themed and I was like "Welp, can't cancel now. Maybe next month" *lol*
  • Paper clips - let me clarify though. Not the basic ones with no pizzaz. I need the ones with pom poms on top or pretty felt characters or something. They gotta stand out.

  • Planner Pads - I like to use these for pre planning my week and making notes on to dos for my day. Easy to toss in the bag and go and they have cute designs.

  • Charms for planners - This comes and goes depending on the planner. When i was hardcore into my TN and A5 size planner, I really wanted a lot. But the Happy Planner is a bit harder to put charms on, so i had to put a bit of a hold on them, curate a collection that made sense for the planners I was into.
  • Notebooks - Need i say more.
