Favorite Season

Tuesday, October 31, 2017

If you can’t tell by the picture…I am a fall baby. Not that I was born in the fall, but it does have my heart. There is something about the crisp chill in the air and the leaves turning colors that just makes me happy. Every fall, when I pull out the tub of winter clothes and put away summer, it just feels as if a fresh start is happening.

All of a sudden, it’s appropriate to drink hots things again and to eat hearty soups.

Baking becomes a thing again and cranking up the oven to cook food is no longer a chore.

The sound of leaves crunching under your feet and the hush that seems to fall over the city as night falls because it’s too cold to hang out for long. All of this just fills me with a sense of calm that is hard to describe.

I love that fall signals all the coming holidays. For me, this means family and cards and pictures of relatives you don’t get to see as often as you like. The Nightmare before Christmas starts to run on a constant basis (this is my HIGHLIGHT). Pulling out cardigans and gloves and snow boots just makes me giddy.

Pumpkin pie is everywhere and I happily partake in eating it. In my house, I'm the only one so this just means more for me.

Tell me…what is your favorite season and why?

Fall Update

Monday, October 30, 2017

I must admit…I think that Fall/Autumn is my favorite season. Spring is a close second, but fall just…does something to my soul. Summer is great and all and while I don’t really mind the heat, it’s just not where my heart lies. Every time the temperature drops and the leaves start to crunch I just feel a piece of me come back to life. The chill in the air, the hot drinks that now make sense, the anticipation of all the upcoming holidays…I love it. And then, there is the number one reason, the reason of all reasons.

I love to shop and Autumn means an autumn wardrobe update. Now that the seasons are officially changing, I find that my wardrobe is looking…a bit forlorn. It comes with the territory of having a child, working and going to school full-time. Now, we all have our old faithful items that last from season to season, but usually they need a little injection of new – some key pieces to drag our little old Fall wardrobes from years gone by into the new season. It’s time for an update, not an overhaul…at least not yet. And so, I’ve scrolled through some of my favorite stores to bring you my picks to make your transition style an Autumnal walk in the park.

1. An oversized cardigan

This is the perfect piece to throw on as you rush out the door, or to just cuddle up in while sitting on the couch with fuzzy socks on watching a holiday movie.

2. An off the shoulder sweater dress

I have to admit, I have always wanted one of these dresses. One for every season. This color is a beautiful autumn red shade and I need this in my closet...ASAP

3. Sweater Dress

This piece in particular would look so good with over the knee boots. Or some tights with cute little velvet flats.

4. A sexy back sweater

I know...this may seem impractical in cold weather, but it would be so amazing on a date night or a late night cocktail party with the fire blazing in the background.

5. Off the shoulder sweater

I love the look of shoulders exposed and open, with a long necklace accentuating the collarbone. Maybe some long earrings. A cute little tote bag.

 6. Over the knee boots

Who does not love a good over the knee boot? I always salivate over this look every year and I promised myself that this year...I was going to invest.

Fall Bucket List

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
-George Eliot

Fall is coming or for some it’s already here and with it, a sense of things coming to an end. Okay, that was morbid, but the truth is that around this time, I get nostalgic and wistful of things that were and used to be. More so now that I have a daughter and she’s growing up WAY too fast for my liking. Just the other day she had colored pencils and was scribbling all over paper on the floor in my office.

I can’t deal.

But it did get me to thinking about all the things that I want to do with my daughter as she’s growing up. Memories that I want to make with her and have pictures to look back on. So, I came up with a bucket list of sorts. Activities that I either never got to do when I was child, always wanted to do or maybe just want to do with her to create our own reminiscences.

Fall Bucket List 2017:

·      Visit a pumpkin patch
·      Visit a haunted house (something age appropriate)
·      Go trick or treating
·      Go on a hayride
·      Carve a real pumpkin
·      Bake
·      Clean from top to bottom (fall cleaning is more for me but still…)
·      Take family photos
·      Stock the pantry for winter
·      Stomp on crunchy leaves
·      Finish an old cross sticth project
·      Walk through local old town on a sunny day
