Fall Update

Monday, October 30, 2017

I must admit…I think that Fall/Autumn is my favorite season. Spring is a close second, but fall just…does something to my soul. Summer is great and all and while I don’t really mind the heat, it’s just not where my heart lies. Every time the temperature drops and the leaves start to crunch I just feel a piece of me come back to life. The chill in the air, the hot drinks that now make sense, the anticipation of all the upcoming holidays…I love it. And then, there is the number one reason, the reason of all reasons.

I love to shop and Autumn means an autumn wardrobe update. Now that the seasons are officially changing, I find that my wardrobe is looking…a bit forlorn. It comes with the territory of having a child, working and going to school full-time. Now, we all have our old faithful items that last from season to season, but usually they need a little injection of new – some key pieces to drag our little old Fall wardrobes from years gone by into the new season. It’s time for an update, not an overhaul…at least not yet. And so, I’ve scrolled through some of my favorite stores to bring you my picks to make your transition style an Autumnal walk in the park.

1. An oversized cardigan

This is the perfect piece to throw on as you rush out the door, or to just cuddle up in while sitting on the couch with fuzzy socks on watching a holiday movie.

2. An off the shoulder sweater dress

I have to admit, I have always wanted one of these dresses. One for every season. This color is a beautiful autumn red shade and I need this in my closet...ASAP

3. Sweater Dress

This piece in particular would look so good with over the knee boots. Or some tights with cute little velvet flats.

4. A sexy back sweater

I know...this may seem impractical in cold weather, but it would be so amazing on a date night or a late night cocktail party with the fire blazing in the background.

5. Off the shoulder sweater

I love the look of shoulders exposed and open, with a long necklace accentuating the collarbone. Maybe some long earrings. A cute little tote bag.

 6. Over the knee boots

Who does not love a good over the knee boot? I always salivate over this look every year and I promised myself that this year...I was going to invest.

Top Guilty Pleasures

My Top guilty pleasures

As I secretly indulged in some of my favorite things this week, I started thinking about guilty pleasures. The urban dictionary says guilty pleasures are those things we shouldn’t like, but we like anyway. I think this is a paradox or even better…an oxymoron (I do enjoy getting to use big words). They are things we do but don’t talk about to anyone, or maybe our BFF’s when we’ve had one glass to many. If we really like doing something, we shouldn’t feel guilty about it, right?

Watching Keeping Up with Kardashians.

I will not deny the pleasure I get when I happen to have a moment to sit down and watch this family in action. I especially loved the earlier seasons, the later ones not so much. I know that I’m not alone, or the show would have gone off the air by now. While some may say the show is so bad it’s good, I’m not one of them. There is something about them that just…sits so well with me. Especially Kourtney and her sarcasm. I mean…it’s so biting I love it.

Dropping my daughter off with her GMa’s

(dodging the rocks people are throwing) Now, I don’t have to explain to any mother who works and goes to school and maintains a household just what this means to one’s sanity. I have been blessed with a close-knit family that is willing and able to help me out when needed. I do try not to use it too much, but when I do…ahhh. I love my daughter (duh!) but sometimes…mommy needs a time out of her own.

Dancing Like No One Is Watching

dancing like no one is watching, is something all people do (I hope). Sometimes I do it when I’m alone and listening to music or maybe making dinner, and sometimes I do it to entertain my daughter when I have to put her in her highchair.  I even do it in the car, cruising at a cool 75(ish). Whenever, I just like the freedom of not having a care in the world for those few minutes.

Facebook Creeping

Throughout my life, I have met, befriends and un-friended countless people. They were childhood friends, high school sweethearts, an ex-husband and even a BFF from high school. Creeping on exes on social media is totally normal and acceptable and I do secretly love it when I see that my ex is unhappy or my old frenemies got fat or fired or whatever. It feels good when you compare yourself to someone else and “win” that imaginary battle.

Being petty

This ties into the creeping. While my mom will gasp at this and say she raised me better, the truth is that occasionally, I do enjoy being petty. I try not to be all the time, because that rebound like a bad rubber band to the face, but sometimes, a lesson must be taught. Amiright?

Hover Rover

I must admit, sometimes I like to look over strangers’ shoulders and read their text messages or emails, maybe peep their Instagram page to see what they are posting. I linger over people with the most interesting conversations and quickly turn away when they look at me, looking at their phone.

Now that I have laid bare my pleasures I keep hidden, tell me about yours. What do you hope no one will ever find out?

What to watch on TV

Friday, September 22, 2017

Lately, I have not been into T.V. It could be that I have no cable or that between running behind my 1 year old, a full class load and working several jobs, I just don't have the time to sit down and just...veg out. Even though I just said all this, I still have a few shows that I do manage to make time for.

Claws is at the top of this list.
Claws is a midnight-dark, wickedly funny meditation on female badness set in a South Florida nail salon. It follows the rise of five diverse and treacherous manicurists working at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon, where there is a lot more going on than silk wraps and pedicures. Claws is about good women caught in bad places with worse men. It's the story of hardworking women trying to get by in this economy, set against the surreal, bright, gritty landscape of Florida and the luscious, absurd, extreme excesses of the crime world.
Niecy Nash is the main star and I just...uh...I love it. I just loved this show and all the characters and the plot. Just dark enough to satisfy my morbid humor like but still funny enough to make you wonder if you imagined the darkness. I can not wait for it to come back on TV.

My second favorite is probably a no brainer. The Walking Dead. I have been riding with this show since it first aired. I did not watch the last season, though I did read all the spoilers and blow by blow accounts. I having watched the season finale where they killed...you know...I just had to take a step back for my sanity. I was way to involved in this world and it actually hurt me deep when they did what they did. Now that things seem to be back on the right track, I am ready to give it my heart again. I can not wait for Rick to make his comeback.

My third favorite is Lt. Joe Kenda on the ID channel. The setting of this crime show is him retelling some of his most interesting crime cases from the 60's and 70's and I just...it is so satisfying to watch him almost always catch his killer. There is very little gore or mayhem like some other crime shows, and I think that's what I like about it. Also...his tagline of "My, my, my..." cracks me up every time. I just love this show.

I'm always on the lookout for new shows, so tell me, what are some of your most favorite TV shows?
